Five Ways to Feel Less Tired When We Can’t Get Enough Rest

For busy professionals, there are moments when they are particularly busy and they can get enough sleep for a few days. In reality, lack of sleep isn’t the sole reason of tiredness and we compensate by eradicating bad habits that can cause us to feel more tired. Here are five recommended tweaks that we can reduce tiredness during particularly busy days:
  1. Don’t skip exercise: Professionals often skip rest when they are particularly busy. Unfortunately, this tendency may work against them. Regular exercises could boost our endurance and strength, ensuring smoother cardiovascular system. Our body functions could also work better, because exercise delivers more nutrients and oxygen to tissues. We can do exercise in the office by taking the stairs regularly, instead of the using the elevators. We can also walk faster at the office to ensure improved physical activity. Some offices have small gym areas and we should use them whenever we have the chance.
  2. Drink more water: Just 2 percent of dehydration can already affect our body. Dehydration causes the reduction of blood volume and thicker blood. This causes issues in oxygen and nutrients distribution, contributing to feeling of muscle weakness and tiredness.
  3. Eat iron-rich food: Iron deficiency could make us feel weak, irritable and sluggish. Iron could also help us prevent anemia. Nuts, dark green leafy veggies, egg, tofu, beans and lean beef are good sources of iron. It is also recommended to consume more vitamin C along with iron.
  4. Have quality breakfast: Foods are needed to fuel our body and skipping breakfast can make us feel tired. Quality breakfast may include food with healthy fat, lean proteins and whole grains.
  5. Avoid junk food: Simple carbohydrates and food rich in sugar usually have high glycemic index and this can improve blood sugar. One likely reason of fatigue is constant blood sugar spikes and drops. One good way to ensure steady blood sugar level is to consume lean protein and food with more complex carbohydrate, such as whole grain foods and nuts.
